How To Read Your Water Meter
Reading your water meter is not a difficult task. To determine your water usage,
read your meter as you would an odometer – from left to right – and simply
report the number listed. Remember, your water consumption is measured in
cubic feet. One cubic foot equals 7.48 gallons. An answering service is available
24 hours a day to record your meter readings. If your bills are consistently
estimated, please call our office at 732-634-1500 so that we may discuss some
alternative means of obtaining an actual meter reading.
Determining How Much Water You Actually Use
In order to determine your average daily water use or to check your appliance
usage, you can read your meter on an hourly, daily or weekly basis. Simply
record your meter reading at the beginning of a measurement period and again
at the end of the period. The difference between these two meter readings will
be the water used during the period. This audit will provide useful information
as to your appliance usage and your water use habits.
