Most careers in the water industry require a high school diploma and on-the-job training, others require specific
training and certification and many require advanced college degrees in specialized fields. Below are some of the
most common jobs associated with our business:
Accountants
Handle payroll, accounts payable, budgets, financial statements, bond issues and investments.
Customer Service Representatives
Assist with customer billing questions, arrange for service calls, help resolve customer problems, generate bills and
process payments.
Engineers
Design the construction and infrastructure restoration of water supply and wastewater systems.
Human Resource Specialists
Handle hiring and training issues, employee relations, employee communications, wages, benefits and labor relations.
Meter Readers
Read and record water usage through automated meter reading devices.
Maintenance Mechanics
Install, repair and maintain the pumps, valves and mechanical devices used in our pump houses and treatment plants.
Plant Operators
Operate and monitor the equipment that treats and distributes the water. The equipment includes computers, pumps
and valves.
Public Relations Specialists
Deliver public outreach programs, promote corporate citizenship, maintain media and community relations, support
internal and external communications.
Utility Managers
Oversee the entire operation of a water utility.
Utility Distribution Personnel
Install, maintain and repair the distribution systems that move the water from the source to the customers and the
wastewater to the processing plant. They also investigate leaks and maintain infrastructure. These positions require
a CDL-A motor vehicle license.
