Water Quality
Tidewater has a stringent water quality monitoring and testing program to ensure drinking water that meets and consistently exceeds state and federal water quality standards. The Company provides information on its water quality results to customers through Annual Water Quality Reports to customers.

The Southern Shores Water Company and Tidewater Utilities, Inc. will be changing the disinfectant used in treating your drinking water.
This schedule change involves switching from chlorine to chloramine every summer (roughly mid-April through September) for as long as water demand makes this necessary. This is a standard measure proven to keep water mains clean and free of potentially harmful bacteria. The measure also helps to reduce disinfection byproducts like trihalomethanes. As always, the drinking water will be regularly monitored to ensure that the water delivered meets, or is better than, federal and state drinking water regulations.
The map below outlines communities who will be making the switch from chlorine to chloramine. The area shaded in pink (Bear Trap Dunes, Sea Colony and Southern Shores Water Company) indicates an area that is likely to receive only chloraminated water during the time the change in treatment takes place. The lighter orange area indicates an area that may at times receive some chloraminated water and at times receive only chlorinated water.
