URGENT MESSAGE: Please don’t flush wipes down the toilet

These items and anything other than standard toilet paper, should not be put into the toilet. They will clog both household piping and the sewer pipes and pumpstations, resulting in blockages and jams for the pipes and the equipment treating this wastewater. Even many of the wipes that are labeled “flushable” are not and increase the risk for equipment failures and sewage overflows, and higher sewer bills.

 In addition leftover and unused cooking oils, grease and fats should also not be poured down the drain and into the sewer system. While it might seem very liquid when it is coming off the stove, as it cools it hardens and also clogs pipes and sewer equipment.   

Please put wipes in the trash and not toilet- help keep the wipes out of the pipes. And that goes for grease and oils too. We are asking our customers to help us as we manage your important utilities.  


Pinelands Water provides water services to approximately 2,500 residential customers in Burlington County, New Jersey. The Company pumps, treats and distributes water for domestic purposes in the communities of Leisure Towne and Hampton Lakes in Southhampton Township, NJ. Water supply to the Pinelands system is derived from groundwater sources. Pinelands Wastewater Company, a Middlesex Water subsidiary, collects, treats and discharges wastewater from approximately 2,500 residential customers in Burlington County, NJ. The Pinelands Wastewater treatment plant provides clarification, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection. As public utilities, Pinelands Water and Wastewater Companies are subject to the regulations of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. These companies are also regulated by the NJDEP and other governmental agencies concerning water quality and wastewater discharge standards.

Dedicated to Serving You

A small, dedicated team of full-time Pinelands employees work to assure continued water and wastewater service 24/7 to our customers in the Leisuretowne and Hampton Lakes communities.  This consists of daily visits to the individual stations throughout the communities, service-related calls to customers, quarterly meter reading walking through the community and overseeing maintenance and construction repairs and improvements necessary for the efficient operation of our systems. We’re committed to providing you with quality service.

MATERIALS VERIFICATION TEST

The Materials Verification Test below can help you figure out if you have a lead, galvanized steel, copper, or plastic service line on the portion of the service line you own. When you have completed the visual inspection, please submit your results using the following survey link. If you have a lead or galvanized steel service line, Middlesex Water will contact you to confirm the results and schedule your service line replacement.

What you need:

  1. House key or coin
  2. Strong refrigerator magnet

Steps to check your service line:

  1. Find the water meter in your basement or outside your home and look at the service line that enters the water meter.
  2. Use the house key or coin to carefully scratch the pipe surface.
  3. Compare the scratched area to the following descriptions:
    • If it looks shiny and silver, the pipe is made of lead. A magnet will not stick to a lead pipe.
    • If it is a dull gray color with no noticeable scratch on the surface, the pipe is galvanized steel. A magnet will stick to a galvanized steel pipe.
    • If it is the same color as a penny, the pipe is copper. A magnet will not stick to a copper pipe.
    • If it is smooth and red, blue, white, or black, the pipe is plastic. A magnet will not stick to a plastic pipe.
  4. Report your service line material in this SURVEY
